Frequently Asked Questions about Hunter Douglas Window Treatments
As your local, certified Hunter Douglas Dealer in Roseville, we have answers to the most common questions homeowners ask about window coverings. Don’t see your question here? Reach out to our team at California Window Fashions–we’d be happy to chat with you!
What types of window treatments are best for privacy?
Oftentimes, when homeowners are looking for privacy, they want opaque fabric or materials that make it difficult to see through day or night. This can be opaque fabric shades, like blackout or room darkening shades or lined drapery. Privacy can also be achieved with opaque materials like wood, metal or composite materials, found in blinds or shutters when they are closed. We offer custom window treatments that can provide specialty features that can filter light in one position, but offer complete privacy in another, like dual shades. Top down bottom up is another privacy feature that lets light in at the top of the window, but keeps the view into most of the room blocked from the outside.
Which window coverings are most energy-efficient?
Duette honeycomb shades are the industry leader when it comes to insulating your windows and providing energy efficiency for your California home. In addition, we have other window shades that can insulate the window and prevent heat gain or energy loss. Cellular roller shades, fabric roman shades and thermal draperies are other examples of energy efficient window coverings. Interior shutters can also provide insulation and protection from heat gain.
What’s the difference between blinds and shades?
Window blinds cover the window with individual slats that adjust to open in place, letting in light and outdoor views, or staying closed in place to block light and increase privacy. Window shades are fabric window coverings that adjust open and closed. Fabrics either gather as they rise to stack at the top of the window, or they roll up into the headrail. Fabrics can be made of a range of materials, from sheer and light-filtering to room darkening and blackout.
Do you offer cordless and child-safe window coverings?
Yes. We offer cordless window coverings that work manually–you adjust them by pushing and pulling on the bottom rail. We also offer cordless motorized shades that adjust without any cords–a remote, app or smart home device provides the activation for adjustments. Hunter Douglas also features corded operating systems that are child-safe, created with retractable cords and wands, designed to prevent injury.
Can I automate any type of window treatment?
Almost all of the Hunter Douglas window treatments we offer are available with PowerView® automation. This can be added before ordering your custom window treatments.
What window treatments work best for large windows?
We often recommend solar roller shades, honeycomb shades and vertical shades for homeowners that live in Northern California. Almost all of our window treatment collections feature sizing that can cover large windows in California homes, but much of it will depend on the window challenges you are trying to overcome. Your window treatment specialist can guide you to the best coverings that will work based on your specific window solutions.
