Drapery Details: Hardware & Pleats
The “design is in the details” certainly rings true when you’re deciding on custom window drapes. Don’t let yourself feel overwhelmed–that’s what our window covering designers are for. Two ways you can customize the look and style of your drapes are with hardware and top finishings–often referred to as the header of your custom drapery. Let’s explore these categories…
Favorite Header Styles: Pleats & More
It’s called the header style: How the top of your drapes are finished, connecting them to the drapery rod or track. There are a few favorites that exist, and many more that other homeowners prefer. The top 3 header styles? Pinch Pleat, Ripple Fold and Grommet.
Pinch Pleat refers to gathers of fabric at the top. Variations include pleats made from one, two or three folds in the fabric. These drapes are often connected to the hardware with hooks or coordinating curtain rings.
The Ripple Fold Header showcases a uniform look from the top to the bottom. The curved fabrics seem to float across the track, maintaining the “S” shape of the curves.
Grommet Style features metallic circles attached across the top of the draperies. The curtain rod is laced through the grommets allowing the drapes to glide open and closed.
No matter which header style you select, your drapery will complete the look of your room, helping to coordinate the style elements.
Hardware Selections
Decisions about drapery hardware will tie in with other design elements in the space, whether adding character or allowing the other elements to stand out. Drapery hardware includes:
- Rods with end caps or finials
- Drapery track which often disappears when drapes are closed
- Curtain rings or track hooks
- Curtain tie backs (optional)
Hardware selections come in a variety of materials and finishes, including matte black, natural brass, gold, oil-rubbed bronze, brushed nickel, chrome or wood. Your hardware choices are a great way to extend the style of your Roseville home.
The Dynamics of Layering Drapes
- Roman Shades and Roller Shades Are Popular “Base” Shades
- Colors and Patterns Create Visual Interest
- Layered Window Treatments Offer Valuable Benefits
Custom window drapes are a beautiful element to layer with other window coverings, like window shades, blinds or shutters. By layering, you can bring in coordinating colors and patterns. You can choose full drapes or just side panels to frame the window, while the “base” shades offer light control, energy savings and privacy.
Lifestyle Solutions with Drapery
While custom window draperies bring gorgeous design, you can’t deny the lifestyle solutions. Light control and privacy are both easy and convenient. But beyond those two important features exist many more benefits.
Motorized Drapery are an amazing way to access light and privacy in an instant–or on a schedule. Use the app on your phone to adjust smart drapes open, closed, or anywhere in between. When automatic drapes are in your home, you’ll save time, energy and money with the ease and convenience they add.
Room Darkening Drapery allow you to create a custom atmosphere. When you close blackout drapes, you fill your space with the privacy and darkness you need for a good night of sleep, or the ideal setting for an afternoon movie. The details are in the fabrics–certain fabrics will create the right amount of darkness, and we can also add blackout liners to your drapery.
Thermal Drapery protects your home from uncomfortable heat gain. These energy savings drapes can be closed to create a barrier of insulation. They also block incoming light so the interior surfaces don’t heat up–which often makes the air in your home feel stuffy and hot.
